|A steel processing client, with 150 workers in their plant located in central
, was experiencing an average of four serious laceration injuries per month (OSHA recordable incidents). The injuries were occurring when contacting the exposed sharp edges of the steel sheets, or coils. Focused risk assessment by RSS professionals involving both job safety analysis & PPE hazard assessments of the steel forming tasks produced:
q machine guarding improvements;
q minimum acceptable safe work practices, and
q mandatory personal protective equipment.
These enhancements resulted in a 70% reduction in injury frequency.
